More Folded Log Cabin Blocks

Here is another of the folded log cabin blocks. They are quite dense and heavy for their size, which is approximately 7.5 inches. Yet another:

By the way, these blocks are supposed to be 7.5 inches unfinished, but no two are exactly the same size. They have not been squared up, or as Bonnie Hunter says, squared down. You can't add fabric, only remove in the squaring process. They may need one or more strips added to bring them up to sufficient size to trim down to 7.5 inches.

  1. two more great blocks, I am sure they will look good when put into a quilt, is it going to be a big one?

    1. These blocks will go into a wall hanging. They are much too heavy with the muslin foundation and overlapping folded strips to be useful otherwise. When you sew each strip on you are sewing through five layers of fabric.

  2. These blocks are calling my name! How about a tutorial? Can I talk you into it? Love the fabrics chosen for these!

    1. Kevin, you can find all the directions written much better than I could, in "Folded Log Cabin Quilts" by Sarah Kaufman. Amazon has copies available right now!

  3. You have some excellent fabrics in these, Mary Ellen. They are quite spectacular! I am interested to see how you will finish it.

    1. I am eager to get back to work on them. The entire sampler wall hanging calls for 12 blocks, but first the baby quilts have to be finished.
