Snowy Progress

A record 12.2 inches of snow fell yesterday. This is a view out the back door and as you can see, the bald cypress is quite laden with the snowfall. It's very beautiful, and the school districts have given the children a snow day. I expect to see quite a few sledders out on the street later on. The temperatures have not been brutal, hovering at a a degree or so above freezing. This means driving will not be a problem. Our street is quite clear. The county trucks came through yesterday afternoon and laid down salt, which is very productive when the temperatures are at or near freezing. I took advantage of the weather to sew some yesterday and here is the result.

A white border goes on today and then prairie points. I am itching to make some blocks ala Victoria Wolfe's "15 Minutes of Play." Charlie, the newest cat, entertained himself yesterday playing in the scrap box. This alerted me to the fact that there is quite a bit in the box right now and a peek at the Material Obsession blog this morning gave me the idea to whip up a few of Wolfe's scrappy blocks.

  1. LOL, better you than us! I like winter, but I think even I would be disheartened by another 12"! I think your storm is going south of us - it is all blue skies here!

Your quilt is looking good so far. I can't wait to see it with the prairie points!

    1. Only 5.5 inches in our backyard. The 12.2 inches was measured officially at the airport, 2 miles to the north.

  2. another good quilt form you, with all the snow you will need a lap quilt to keep warm. We are also covered in snow, have not been out as the pavements are so icy from the compacted snow, heaven alone knows when it will clear as the council do not do side roads or pavements.

    1. Fortunately the temperatures have been at or above freezing. The county salted our subdivision streets liberally yesterday afternoon while it was snowing. Today the roads are completely clear and I had no trouble getting out for errands. It is supposed to be 50 degrees by Saturday with rain - perfect for melting away the snow and washing off the salt. Although it was a record snowfall here as measured at the airport (20 miles to the north of me), we measured 5.5 inches in our backyard.
