Playing

I have been making decent progress on the girl's baby quilt. The prairie points have all been made and trimmed and the backing fabric arrived today. I will finalize the quilt top tomorrow, but yesterday and today I wanted to play a little. I have been making 5 inch squares of scraps ala "15 Minutes of Play" by Victoria Findlay Wolfe. It is great fun and you can just let your mind wander as you rummage through your scrap piles. I was kind of forced into it when Charley, the newest cat, discovered the box of scraps on the floor of my sewing room. He had all kinds of fun jumping in and out of the box, playing with the scraps, and generally making a big mess. Well, thought I, he has a point. If he can play, so can I. Here is one of the squares set into a saw-toothed star.

  1. I thought you were taking up crazy quilting when I saw that first picture! Your blocks look like a lot of fun. :)

    Happy Easter!

    1. I have been called crazy, so maybe this is a form of crazy quilting. It is fun, but it is also procrastination. I need to finish up the girl's baby quilt today. Also off to the vet with Charley to get him a booster shot for something or other. He also needs his ears looked at (again). They were pretty much a mess when we got him and they were cleaned out thoroughly when he was under anesthesia for the neutering. I predict more medicine needed.

    2. Okay, update on Charley. The vet said NO, NO, NO to cats playing in the scrap pile. She has seen too many instances of several abdominal issues develop. Seems the cats play and chew on the fabric pieces and can catch them on their teeth and then try to swallow the pieces. Part of it goes down their throat and into the intestines. The pull and push of the intestinal action gets the fabric balled up into a wad and obstructs the bowel. His ears are a mess again, seems that he has a predilection for yeast infections in the ears. Plus he had an infection and fever from a bite on his leg from one of the other cats, as he doesn't go outside. Rather an expensive day overall.

  2. I, too, am working on Victoria's Star Splitter quilt in QM magazine. It is SO much fun "making" fabric. Look for my finish in a week or two on my blog! Always enjoy visiting your's!
